Bhairav Kunda Trek - 12 Days

Bhairav Kunda Trek is one of the newly opened trekking routes of Nepal. This trek is ideal for those who seek to explore a new place, new sides of culture, and unique lifestyles.

The beautiful trekking journey takes you to the most preserved holy sites “Bhairav Kunda” (4,240 m). Every year during the full moon day in Bhadra (August) thousands of pilgrims visit this lake.

The word “Bhairav” comes from the Sanskrit word meaning the destructive manifestation of Lord Shiva while “Kunda” means pond. Near Bhairav Kunda there is another sacred site “Panch Pokhari” (Five Ponds). This place is also open for trekking in recent years.

The Bhairav Kunda Trek begins from Jalibre and passes through Newar, Gurung, and Sherpa villages. This way you’ll get an opportunity to get a close insight into the rural way of living and traditional culture.

Further, the trekking route passes through dense alpine forests home to different wild animals like Red Panda, Snow Leopard, and the Himalayan Bear. En route, you’ll also get the spectacular views of mountains like Madiya (6,275 m), Phurbi Ghhyachu (6,637 m), Dorje Lukpa (6,966 m), and Jugal Himal.

Likewise, this trek is doable all year round except for the monsoon months.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will greet and transfer you to the hotel.

After some refreshment, you’ll meet the guide and have a brief orientation about Bhairav Kunda Trek in our office.

Later, you can visit the nearby streets of Thamel or Durbar Marg. In the evening, you’ll join a welcome dinner with our team members and other trekkers. You’ll spend a night at a standard tourist hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2
Day 02: Drive to Jalbire

Travel Duration: 5 hours drive

Max Elevation: 1,000 m, Jalbire

Early in the morning after breakfast, your Bhairav Kunda Trek journey will begin with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jalbire. After three hours of drive, you’ll reach the place called Balephi. This Balephi town used to be one of the main towns on the trade route to Tibet.

Further, the drive continues from Balephi to Jalbire. After two hours of the drive through the bumpy roads, you’ll reach Jalbire for an overnight stay.

Please kindly note that, if in case, the vehicle could not go further then you have to walk from Balephi which takes about four hours. Jalbire is a lovely Newari village on the bank of the Balephi river. You’ll get a close insight into the Newari culture and also you can visit the Hindu temple of Lord Vishnu.

Day 3
Day 03: Trek to Chanaute

Trek Duration: 4-5 hours

Max Elevation: 1,345 m, Chanaute

On next day, you’ll continue your trek towards Chanaute. Chanaute is a small beautiful Brahmin and Chhetri village. The day’s walk is moderate and you’ll pass via small enchanting Tamang villages and attractive waterfalls.

Upon arrival at Chanaute, you can relax and enjoy the great mountain views. You’ll spend a night at Chanaute village.

Day 4
Day 04: Trek to Khani Gaon

Trek Duration: 5-6 hours

Max Elevation: 2,010 m, Khani Gaon

After having breakfast, you’ll continue trek towards Khani Gaon. Khani Gaon is another beautiful Newari village and also known as “Dalle Pokhari”. The pond has its name after a cute lake tucked in a hollow near the school.

Further, following the steep uphill trail through different villages and streams you’ll reach Khani Gaon. This is the village where the natives of Bhaktapur hide when Ghorka attacked Bhaktapur valley.

Day 5
Day 05: Rest day in Khani Gaon

Today is set for exploring the beautiful village of Khani Gaon. You’ll get a wonderful opportunity to interact with local Newars and enjoy their delicacies. You’ll also visit Dalle Pokhari and enjoy the surrounding mountain views. Overnight stay at Khani Gaon.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek to Forest Camp

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 3,150 m, Forest Camp

After having a hearty breakfast, you’ll commence your journey to Forest Camp. From Khani Gaon, it takes about 5-6 hours steep uphill climb via the beautiful rhododendron forests. If you’re lucky enough, then you’ll also encounter some wild animals like Himalayan bears and snow leopards. You’ll camp at the forest for the overnight stay.

Day 7
Day 07: Trek to Pati

Trek Duration: 5-6 hours

Max Elevation: 3,765 m, Pati

Today, you’ll begin your trek with a steep ascent via pine and rhododendron forests. As the trek is the steep uphill, you need to take it easy and walk on your own pace. And, enjoy the beautiful surrounding mountain views.

After four hours of challenging climb, you’ll finally reach Pati. You can relax in the rest houses and enjoy the splendid view of the mountains. You’ll spend a night in Pati village.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek to Bhairav Kunda

Trek Duration: 3-4 hours

Max Elevation: 4,250 m, Bhairav Kunda

After having breakfast at Pati, you start your trek towards the Bhairav Kunda at an altitude of 4,250 m. It is a big holy lake and nearby there is a small temple of Lord Shiva. During June- August, thousands of pilgrims come to worship Lord Shiva and take a bath in the holy lake.

Likewise, on this day you climb uphill for an hour, walk for 2-3 hours on the plain terrain and reach Bhairav Kunda. Overnight stay at tented camp.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek to Sherpa Gaon

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 2,500 m, Bhairav Kunda

Today early in the morning you’ll hike for one and a half hours to the top. And catch the stunning sunrise view over Langtang, Jugal Himal, Rolwaling and the Tibetan range.

After enjoying the breathtaking view of sunrise, you’ll return to camp for the breakfast. Continue your trek and descend for about 6 hours through forests. You’ll reach Sherpa Gaon for an overnight stay.

Day 10
Day 10: Trek to Larcha and visit Hot Spring (Kodari Tatopani)

Trek Duration: 4-5 hours

Max Elevation: 1,500m, Larcha

Today is the final day of your trek, you’ll leave Larcha after a hot breakfast. The trail leads through the back of the Bhote Koshi river. After reaching Larcha, you’ll visit Hot Spring and enjoy natural hot spring bath.

After relaxing in the hot spring, you’ll return back to Larcha for an overnight stay.

Day 11
Day 11: Drive Back to Kathmandu and Farewell Dinner in the Evening

Trek Duration: 6 hours

Max Elevation: 1,338 m

After breakfast, you’ll finally drive back to Kathmandu. It’ll take about 6 hours. Upon arrival, we transfer you to the hotel and you’ll get leisure time for refreshment and rest.

In the evening, you can enjoy a farewell dinner with us. You’ll spend a night at a standard tourist hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 12
Day 12: Transfer to the International Airport for Final Flight Departure

After morning breakfast, our staff will escort you to Tribhuvan International Airport. We will drop you three hours before your scheduled flight back home.
