Langtang Valley Trekking - 12 Days

Langtang region is the third most popular trekking regions in Nepal after the Everest and Annapurna region. Langtang Valley Trek is quite easy and less crowded trek than any other popular trekking regions.

Langtang Valley is 19 miles north of Kathmandu Valley. Only a few hours of drive from Kathmandu valley will take you to the beautiful Langtang region. Although this trekking route lies close to the city it is wild and high as any of the Tibetan highlands.

The trek begins from the small town Syabru Besi. The trekking trail passes via beautiful forest trail to the high alpine meadows, yak pastures to reach Kyanjin Gompa. The last destination is Kyajin Gompa where you’ll visit the ancient Buddhist monastery.

Likewise, the next day you’ll get an opportunity to ascend Tserko Ri (4,350 m). From the top, you’ll get the 360-degree panoramic mountain views of the Langtang region.

During the trek, you’ll walk via Langtang National Park and spot some interesting rare wild animals and birds. If lucky, you can witness Musk Deer, Red Panda, Himalayan Thar, and the colorful Danphe.

The trekking route is scenic and passes via rural landscapes on a backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. Plus, the scattered villages, terraced farms, and forests add beauty to your journey.

Furthermore, the trekking route passes through the local villages inhabited by Tamang, Sherpa, and Tibetan people. Thus, throughout the trekking journey, you’ll experience the lifestyle and culture of high mountain people.

The best time to visit this wonderful trekking region is from February to May in Spring and from September to November in Autumn.

Likewise, to trek in this region you do not need any trekking experience. as the trekking altitude is not high at all.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu

Max Elevation: 1338 m, Kathmandu

After your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives will greet you and transfer to the respective hotel. After check-in and some refreshment, there will be a brief orientation about Langtang Valley Trek.

Later, you can go for a stroll in nearby places like Thamel or Durbar Marg. In the evening, you’ll join a welcome dinner where you will meet your guide and fellow trekkers. You’ll spend overnight in Kathmandu at a three-star hotel.

Day 2
Day 02: Sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley

Today after breakfast, you’ll have a full day at Kathmandu for sightseeing. You’ll visit UNESCO World Heritage sites including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

In the evening, you can do shopping in Thamel area for basic trek amenities. Overnight in Kathmandu in a three-star hotel.

Day 3
Day 03: Drive to Syabru Besi

Travel Duration: 8 hours

Max Elevation: 1,462 m, Syabru Besi

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you’ll head for Syabru Besi. Normally, the drive takes 7-8 hours. There are two options to reach Syabru Besi: one via Kakani in the north of Kathmandu Valley and next via Galchi in the south-west of Kathmandu Valley.

Syabru Besi village is the main entrance of Langtang National Park. This small mountainous village offers a mesmerizing view of the Mt. Manaslu, Annapurna, and Ganesh Himal.

Finally, driving along the bank of the river and enjoying the scenery of green hills you’ll reach Syabru Besi. You’ll spend an overnight at local lodge in Syabru Besi village.

Day 4
Day: 04 Trek to Lama Hotel

Trek Duration: 5 hours

Max Elevation: 2,500 m, Lama Hotel

Today you’ll begin your trek from Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel. You’ll traverse via the Bhote Koshi river flowing down from Tibet. Then following the bank of Langtang Khola and passing via landslide area, you’ll gradually climb to Bamboo village.

Further, the trail ascends to Remiche which stands on the bank of Langtang Khola. The trail goes via Langtang National Park. You’ll spot some rare wild species including Red Panda, Musk Deer, Himalayan Thar, and Black Beer.

After a few hours of walk, you’ll reach the Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek to Langtang Village

Trek Duration: 5 hours

Max Elevation: 3,307 m, Langtang Village

After early morning breakfast, you’ll continue your trek via forest trail. At first, passing via Gum Chowk and Thomna, you’ll reach Gore Tabela (Horse Stable). This spot offers a super view of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m).

The trail rewards with the magnificent view of Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Naya Kanga. Further, passing through villages like Chyamki and Thayngyapu, you’ll reach Langtang village. It is one of the largest settlement of the Langtang region.

Once there you can explore the village and witness local culture and lifestyle of Sherpa and Tamang people. You’ll spend a night at the teahouse of Langtang village.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa

Trek Duration: 4 hours

Max Elevation: 3,798 m, Kyanjin Gompa

Leaving behind the beautiful Langtang Valley, you’ll continue your trek toward the main destination at Kyanjin Gompa. Today’s trek is quite short (3-4 hours). To avoid altitude sickness, pace yourself.

The trail is stunning, you’ll witness many religious stone mani walls with Buddhists prayers written on them. You’ll cross several small streams and moraines and finally reach Kyanjin Gompa.

The Kyanjin Gompa village has colorful houses and rests on the lap of snow peaks from all sides. You’ll enjoy the panoramic view of Dorje Lapa, Langtang Ri, Ganja La, Yala Peak, and Langtang Lirung. The view is magnificent!

Later, you’ll visit the Yak Cheese Factory and enjoy some fresh yak cheese. Also, you’ll visit hundreds of years old monastery, Kyanjin Gompa. After exploring this small village, you’ll return to the teahouse of Kyanjin Gompa for an overnight stay.

Day 7
Acclimatization Day: Explore around Kyanjin Gompa

Trek Duration: 6-7 hrs

Max Elevation: 5,000 m, Tserko Ri

Today is one of the most important days throughout your Langtang Valley Trek. Early in the morning, you’ll start a hike to Tserko Ri, the highest point of the trek. You’ll walk on the steep trail with the panoramic view of snow-capped mountains on the background.

After 3 ½ hours of hike, you’ll reach to the top of Tsergo Ri. At the top, you’ll see the prayer flags dancing in the winds. You’ll get a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Nayakhang, Gangchembu, Langshisha Ri, Yala Peak, and other surrounding peaks.

After soaking in the amazing mountain view, you’ll return to Kyanjin Gompa. Recalling the beautiful moments and pictures of mountains you’ll spend a night at the teahouse of Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek Back to Lama Hotel

Trek Duration: 5.5 hours

Max Elevation: 2,500 m, Lama Hotel

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you’ll retrace your steps back to Lama Hotel. Today you’ll mostly walk downhill and cross different forests and beautiful Tamang villages. En route, you’ll enjoy the magnificent view of snow-capped Himalayas.

Further, continuing your trek via Ghore Tabela and Langtang village, you’ll reach Lama Hotel. You’ll spend an overnight at the Lama Hotel.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek to Syabru Besi

Trek Duration: 5 hours

Max Elevation: 1,462 m, Syabru Besi

Today is the final day of the trek, you’ll head towards Syabru Besi. You’ll walk along the bank of Langtang river and head downwards to the beautiful valley.

The trek continues via the bamboo and birch forests. And after crossing Langtang and Bhote Koshi river you’ll reach Syabru Besi for an overnight.

Day 10
Day 10: Drive Back to Kathmandu

Travel Hours: 8-9 hours

Max Elevation: 1338 m, Kathmandu

After having early morning breakfast, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu by local bus. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will transfer you to the respective hotel. Evening time is free. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 11
Day 11: Leisure Day and Farewell Dinner in Kathmandu

Max Elevation: 1338 m, Kathmandu

Today is the free day set for you to explore the Kathmandu Valley. You can explore the ancient street of Kathmandu cities like Ason, Indrachowk, and Khicha Pokhari. You can also do shopping around Thamel and Durbar Marg.

In the evening, you’ll join farewell dinner with us to celebrate the successful completion of Langtang Valley Trek. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 12
Day 12: Transfer to the International Airport for Final Flight Departure

Today you’ll bid farewell to the Himalayan country, Nepal. After early breakfast, you’ll leave for Tribhuvan International Airport for final departure.
