Langtang Gosaikunda Trek - 17 Days

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is one of the beautiful treks that takes you to the heart of Langtang region and Helambu village. This trek takes you through rich wildlife, lush green forests, diverse culture, and jaw-dropping views of majestic Himalayas.

Like many other treks, this trek also starts from Syabru Besi, a Tamang village on the bank of Bhote Koshi river. And then, passing through different small settlements the trail goes to Kyanjin Gompa and Tserko Ri. From the top of Tserko Ri, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the mountains.

Likewise, the trail further moves towards Gosaikunda Lake. Gosaikunda is a tranquil lake considered as a holy sacred by both Hindus and Buddhist.

Further, on crossing the Lauribina Pass, you leave the Langtang region and enter the Helambu region. You’ll come across the main village of Helambu like Melamchi Gaon, Tharkeghyang, and Sermenthang. You’ll have a close encounter with the lifestyle and culture of the Tamang and Sherpa people in the region.

In the same way, continuing trek in the Helambu region for a few more days the trek will end with a drive to Kathmandu.

Day 1
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu

Max Elevation: 1338 m, Kathmandu

On your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our company representative will receive you and transfer to the hotel. After freshening up, you’ll visit our office and meet your trekking guide. Our guide will brief you about a Langtang Gosaikunda trip.

Later in the evening, you’ll join a welcome dinner with our team members. It’s really a great time to know your trek guide and other fellow trekkers. Overnight stay at 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Preparation for the trek

Today is set for sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley and trip preparation. You’ll visit UNESCO World Heritage sites including Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Later in the evening, you’ll have enough time for rest and preparation for the next day adventure. Overnight stay at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3
Day 03: Drive to Syabru Besi

Travel Duration: 8-9 hours drive

Max Elevation: 1,550 m, Syabru Besi

After taking the morning breakfast you’ll drive north to Syabru Besi. This scenic drive towards Syabru Besi offers you the alluring views of Ganesh Himal. Plus the green hills along the riverside of Trishuli river till you reach Dhunche. You’ll reach Syabru Besi for an overnight stay.

Day 4
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel

Trek Duration: 6 hours

Max Elevation: 2,380 m, Lama Hotel

Today is the first day of your trek and you’ll head towards Lama Hotel. Following the bank of Langtang river, and walking through the forest trail you’ll reach places like Pahiro and Bamboo. En route you’ll witness variety wildlife. Like Red Pandas, Langur Monkeys, Himalayan Black Bears, and Wild Boars.

Further, the trail ascends gently to Rimche and you’ll reach the Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 5
Day 05: Trek to Mundu via Langtang Village

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 3,430 m, Langtang Village

Today your trek commences through wild forests of rhododendrons, oaks, and maples. Enroute you’ll catch glimpse of snow-capped peaks; Langtang Lirung (7,244 m).

Further, you’ll pass Gumnaam Chowk, Thomna, Ghodatabela, Thangshyap, Mundu and finally reach Langtang village. It is a beautiful village of Tamang people. In the evening, you can visit old monastery and explore the surroundings. You’ll spend a night at the teahouse of Langtang Village.

Day 6
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa

Trek Duration: 4-5 hours

Max Elevation: 3,870 m, Kyanjin Gompa

Today is the short day walk from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa. The trail leads you through Yak Pasture until reaching Kyanjin Gompa.

Reaching Kyanjin Gompa, you can take a rest for some time and visit Kyanjin Gompa and Cheese Factory. You’ll get a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Gang Chempu, Nayakhang, and other surrounding peaks.

You’ll spend a night at the teahouse of Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 7
Day 07: Acclimatization Day: Explore Tserko Ri

Trek Duration: 7-8 hours

Max Elevation: 5,000 m, Tserko Ri

Today is set for the excursion and hike to Tserko Ri, 5,000 m. Early in the morning, after having breakfast you’ll start your hike through a steep trail. And enjoy the great panoramic view in the background.

Once you reach the top of Tserko Ri, you’ll get a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Nayakhang, Gangchembu, Ganja La Range, Yala Peak, and Langshisha Ri.

After enjoying the wonderful moment at the top you’ll trek down to the teahouse at Kyanjin Gompa for an overnight stay.

Day 8
Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 2,380 m, Lama Hotel

The next day, after breakfast, you’ll trek down to Lama Hotel. You’ll walk through yak pastures until you reach Langtang village which takes about 2 hours. Further, crossing some suspension bridge you’ll descend to Thangshyap which takes about one hour.

Again following the forest trail you’ll reach Gode Tabela following the descending trails. And finally, reach Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9
Day 09: Trek to Thulo Syabru

Trek Duration: 5-6 hours

Max Elevation: 2,230 m, Thulo Syabru

Today you’ll continue your trek via the forest’s trail until reaching Pairo. It nearly takes about 3 hours. From here you’ll skip the trail to Syabru Besi and climb up the steep trail for 2 hours to reach Thulo Syabru.

Thulo Syabru village rewards you with a great view of mountains like Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and other surrounding peaks. In the evening, you can also visit monastery with your guide. Overnight stay at the teahouse of Thulo Syabru village.

Day 10
Day 10: Trek to Shin Gompa

Trek Duration: 3-4 hours

Max Elevation: 4,460 m, Shin Gompa

Today following the steep ascents, at first you’ll reach Phoprang Danda at the height of 3,190 meters. This place is one of the best vantage points for a superb sunset view over Ganesh Himal.

Furthermore, you’ll continue your trek via blue pine forests and reach Government Agriculture Office. You reach Sing Gompa which is also known as Chandan Bari. Here you can visit the yak cheese factory. Overnight stay at the teahouse of Shin Gompa.

Day 11
Day 11: Trek to Gosaikunda

Trek Duration: 5-6 hours

Max Elevation: 4,380 m, Gosaikunda

Today, you’ll continue your trek towards Gosaikunda. There are many lakes in the Gosaikunda area. Saraswati Kund, Bhairav Kunda, Gosaikunda, Dudh Kunda, Chandra Kunda, Ama Kunda, and Ragat Kunda.

Among these, Gosaikunda is a large lake and it has a black rock in the middle and said to be the head of Shiva. There is a belief that, Shiva created this high altitude lake when he pierced a glacier with his Trishul. While he wanted to get water to quench his thirst after consuming the deadly poison.

During the full moon day in August thousands of pilgrims visit this holy lake to worship and bathe.

After exploring the Gosaikunda area, you’ll return back to the teahouse for an overnight stay.

Day 12
Day 12: Trek to Ghopte

Trek Duration: 6-8 hours

Max Elevation: 4,610 m, Lauribina Pass

Today you’ll leave Gosaikunda thereby walking through three small lakes. And head towards Laurebina Pass at 4,610 meters of altitude. You’ll spend some time to explore the surrounding and get some awesome views of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal.

Further, the trail descends to Ghopte. On the way, you’ll see some yaks carrying goods. Finally, after 7-8 hours of long walk, you’ll reach Ghopte for an overnight stay.

Day 13
Day 13: Trek to Melamchi Gaon

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 2,560 m, Melamchi Gaon

Today you’ll trek to the Melamchi Gaon. You’ll start your trek downhill for the first few hours. Then start to ascend through the rhododendron forest until you reach Tharepati.

Further, from Tharepati, the trail gradually descends through pine and rhododendron forests. The trekking path offers you the superb views of Helambu valley and Jugal Himal.

Melamchi Gaon is home of Sherpa people and surrounded by beautiful forests. Along the way, you can also visit some Buddhists monasteries. Overnight stay at Melamchi Gaon.

Day 14
Day 14: Trek to Tarkeghyang (Helambu)

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Max Elevation: 2,590 m, Tarkeghyang (Helambu)

Today the first half of the trek descends until you cross the Melamchi stream. Again you’ll trek gently up to Tarkeghyang (Helambu ), the main village of Helambu. In this village, you can explore many ancient monasteries.

Overnight stay at Tarkeghyang village.

Day 15
Day 15: Trek to Sermathang

Trek Duration: 8-9 hours

Max Elevation: 2,610 m, Sermathang

Today following the fairly easy trail you’ll trek towards Sermathang. On this day, a walk is comparatively easy as it doesn’t intercept to the higher altitudes. On the way to Sermathang village, you’ll cross some small streams.

Further, you’ll continue your trek along the flat trail until you arrive at Sermathang. Sermathang is another beautiful Sherpa village. Here you can visit many ancient monasteries. You’ll also get an awesome view of Jugal Himal range from the north face of the village.

Overnight stay at the teahouse of Sermathang.

Day 16
Day 16: Trek to Melamchi Bazaar and Drive to Kathmandu, Farewell Dinner in the Evening

Today is the final day of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. You’ll gradually descend all the way to Melamchi Bazaar. En route you’ll enjoy the marvelous view of countryside farms and rice fields.

Melamchi Bazaar is a settlement with a small market and home for Sherpas, Tamangs, Brahmins, and Chettri. From Melamchi Bazaar you’ll drive back to Kathmandu.

Once you reach Kathmandu, you can take some rest and later join the farewell dinner program arranged by Osho Vision. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

Day 17
Day 17: Transfer to the International Airport for Final Flight Departure

Today is your final day in Nepal. Our representatives will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport. Finally, you’ll board your flight back home from the airport.
